Research suggests that non-native English speakers are rarely given the credit they deserve. They are considered less believable and native English speakers often talk over them. It’s not right!
One of my students was extremely anxious when we started our lessons. He had been living in the US for years already and despite being a highly-intelligent, capable and curious person, he tried to avoid going out so he wouldn’t have to speak to anyone. The way he’d been treated by native English speakers was completely unacceptable. We started working on his pronunciation and word-choice and he started to regain some confidence. Then, at the end of our 8th lesson, he told me he was going to go to a coffee shop that afternoon so he could practice speaking English.
I was so happy for him and I was proud to have been able to help him. He learned to speak English with CONFIDENCE and you can too!
